The tender Tanzanite is the second most beautiful birthstones by month December; this Sagittarius birthstone is mostly known for its curing properties, which include improving skin health, combating hair loss, increasing concentration, and enhancing intuition. It is also believed to stimulate the third eye chakra, which can heighten perception, intuition and psychic abilities.

The tanzanite was first discovered by Maasai herders in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania after a wildlife in 1967. It is believed that crystals were originally brown, but the heat from the fire transformed them into blue. The gemstones were initially thought to be sapphires but were later identified as a new gemstone by the British Museum and Harvard University. They were named “blue zoisite”. Tiffany & Company's Henry B. Platt renamed the gemstone ""Tanzanite"" after its country of origin. Platt chose the name because he believed “Blue Zoisite sounded like “Blue Suicide.”

Trichroism and pleochroism are the two unique properties of tanzanite, which make it appear in different colors depending on the angle it’s viewed from and the lighting conditions. In Trichroism, Tanzanite can appear blue, violet and burgundy depending on the orientation of the crystal. While in Pleochroism, Tanzanite displays a mix of blue and violet shades depending on the viewing angle. For example, it may appear royal blue in broad daylight but violet and red under incandescent lighting.
